Ten years ago Sigrid Bontenbal's art adventure began with a big dose of guts and a space the size of a soccer field. What began with a creative explosion called 'Spijkertje aan de muur' has now grown into an established name in the art world - and in Ootmarsum.
As early as 2022, Galerie De Ruimte could already be found in one of the most beautiful streets in town, the Gasthuisstraat. But the gallery quickly grew so in April 2025, Galerie De Ruimte moved to a stately building on the Grotestraat.

From first visit to firm decision
Sigrid says, "On my first visit to Ootmarsum, my decision was immediately firm: this is where I want to live and continue my business." The charm of the Twente coulisse landscape, the welcoming atmosphere and the vibrant art offerings - it was a perfect fit.
As an art stylist and gallery owner, she knows better than anyone else how important it is that art not only sells, but is also experienced. "The art experience I experience myself, I would like to share with others."
A place full of surprises
At Galerie De Ruimte you will find a wide range of art: from realistic to abstract, for novice enthusiasts to seasoned collectors. The gallery represents some 50 Dutch and Belgian artists - each with their own story, style and signature.
And there is always something new to discover. The collection changes weekly, and Sigrid is ready with personal styling advice for those who want to give their home, garden or office an artistic impulse.
Spring full of inspiration
The new location was festively inaugurated with the exhibition "Spring!", a sparkling collection of masterpieces by 30 artists. The exhibition shows what Galerie De Ruimte stands for: art that touches, surprises and inspires.
