’t Lutterzand Nature Reserve

The Lutterzand Nature Reserve is an excellent destination for both young and old to enjoy a fun day out in nature. The area is open year-round, with walking and cycling allowed on the designated paths.

An absolute highlight in the region when it comes to the combination of nature, relaxation, and enjoyment. For every local in Twente, ’t Lutterzand is synonymous with pleasant outings, paddling in the Dinkel River, and exploring the natural surroundings.

The Dinkel

By far the most photographed feature is the famous bend in the Dinkel River on the west side of this 750-hectare, highly diverse nature reserve. The river winds through the area, creating sandy banks and spectacular eroding cliffs. Centimeter by centimeter, the flowing water gnaws away at the riverbanks. During high water, this can happen quite rapidly. Even the oldest and sturdiest trees eventually succumb to the current, constantly reshaping the landscape into a slightly different, yet always wondrously beautiful, scene.

The nature and gently rolling landscape are varied, with pine and deciduous trees, junipers, drifting sand areas, and heathlands. It is also a paradise for many bird species, with the riverbanks serving as a habitat for kingfishers and sand martins.

Food & Drink

This area is included on almost every cycling map of Twente. There are three atmospheric hospitality spots where visitors can relax on terraces or in family restaurants.

Paviljoen Lutterzand is located on the edge of the reserve. Its renovated terrace offers a pleasant spot to unwind while children enjoy the playground.

Restaurant & Buitenplaats Florilympha, nestled in the Lutterzand woods, features a nostalgic 18-hole gravel mini-golf course right next to the terrace.

De Lutte Hutte is a forest-based café where, in spring and autumn, there is a campfire for children to roast marshmallows. During summer, Italian gelato is available.

Overnight Stays

The Lutterzand also offers accommodation at the rustic Natuurcamping Meuleman, with summer cottages scattered among the trees. Options include Landgoed Lutterzand recreation homes, Boshuisje De Lutte Zommerhuuske, and Schrijvershuisje. Nearby, there are also accommodations in Beuningen such as IJsvogel and Dinkelzicht, or campsites like Dennelust, Dinkelweide, and De Bergboer. Close by, you’ll also find Dinkelhuuske vacation home and the Erve Velpen camper site. For hotel stays, Ros van Twente and Landhuishotel De Bloemenbeek are conveniently located near the Lutterzand.

Although it attracts many visitors, this beautiful area has remained an oasis of tranquility.

Off-Leash Area

Dogs are welcome, provided they are on a leash. There is one designated off-leash area by the water, so your four-legged friend can splash around freely.
